Statement: I am an applications architect who successfully produces J2EE enterprise-class business applications. I focus on excellent object and service oriented design, and enforce best practices in the teams that I lead. I am interested in technical leadership positions on agile software development projects.

Work History:

Health Care Services Corporation
Chicago, Illinois. May 2006 – present.

I am currently the Technical Lead overseeing the development of HCSC's ASO Cost Billing System, a service oriented application responsible for billing over $1 billion in claims back to self-insured customers every month. I am responsible for the design and ensuring that my team of 15 developers deploy a high-quality, technically sound product. In this case, it is a J2EE 1.4 application running on WebSphere 6.1 on AIX servers, using DB2 8 on z/OS, and communicating with numerous distributed and mainframe applications. Other technologies used include Java 5, Dojo (AJAX), Spring 2.5, Hibernate, MQ, and CFX. The development methodology is a mixture of TDD and Crystal Clear.

In 1996, I designed and led the development of Several web services for handling EDI requests for eligibility from providers and the BCBS association. This was a Java 1.4 POJO application running on WebSphere 6.0 using ILOG, Spring 2.0, and Apache Axis 1.4.

I am also a primary member of HCSC's Technical Reference Model team that determines the company's application development policies, standards, and guidelines.

Aon Warranty Group
Chicago, Illinois. April 2001 to May 2006.

As a Senior Software Engineer I was the lead developer creating WLS, a J2EE application for managing extended warranties for electronics and auto repairs for AWG's international clients. My team was a combination of local and off-shore developers working within the SCRUM methodology. The application was built on WebSphere Application Server 5.0, DB2 UDB 7.2, and a personally designed persistence engine, and was later migrated to WAS 6.0, DB2 UDB 8, Hibernate, and Spring.

Intercap Systems
Chicago Illinois. October 1999 to March 2001.

Intercap Systems was a start-up company focused on developing Internet-enabled, back-office services for traditional clearing firms in the financial industry. As a Software Engineer, I was responsible for much of the front end of the application, developing servlets and JSPs that communicated with the EJBs and database in the back-end. Technologies included J2EE 1.2, Java 1.3, Oracle, Toplink, and the Voyager Application Server.

As a business Analyst, I gathered requirements and oversaw the design of the Fixed Income component of the system.

Deloitte & Touche Tax Technologies LLC.
Deerfield, Illinois. November 1996 to October 1999.

Deloitte & Touche Tax Technologies (DTTT) creates tools and applications to support Deloitte & Touche's tax consultants and to help companies determine their tax compliance requirements.

As a Senior Technical Writer, my duties ranged from the writing of manuals and on-line help, to the development of information delivery tools, to the management of the documentation department.

Software Interfaces, Inc.
PLATINUM technology, inc.

Houston, Texas. January 1994 to October 1996.

Software Interfaces produced multi-platform tools for querying, reporting, and converting data from numerous different relational database management systems. Platinum acquired Software Interfaces in 1995 and has since merged with Computer Associates.

As a Technical Writer, I wrote user guides and reference manuals and developed on-line help systems for both Unix and MS Windows systems. This involved an in-depth knowledge of SQL and various relational databases and operating systems.

Office of Naval Research.
Boston, Massachusetts. Summers of 1992 and 1993.

As an Office Automation Clerk, my duties included database management, LAN administration, workstation setup and configuration, PC support, and instructing staff in general PC skills.
